You Get Paid

When it sells, you receive up to 70%* as store credit. Need cash? You can cash out at $0.80 per $1 credit.

*70% consignment payout is a limited-time offer during program launch. Once the exchange reaches capacity, payout will return to a standard 60%.

What We Accept

We accept recent technical outdoor gear and apparel that is clean, fully functional, and locally relevant.

Hiking

We will consider:

  • Hiking packs (<5 years old)
  • Trekking poles (lever lock only)
  • Gaiters & microspikes/traction
  • Headlamps, binoculars & electronics
  • Water bottles & hydration vests
  • Pocket knives & multi-tools
  • Guidebooks & maps (current editions)

We won't consider: external frame packs, twistlock trekking poles

Camping

Lightweight, packable backpacking gear only. No bulky car camping gear.

We will consider:

  • Tents, tarps & bivy sacks (<5 years, packable)
  • Sleeping bags, liners, pads & pillows (packable)
  • Canister fuel stoves
  • Cookware & kitchen gear (packable)
  • Chairs & hammocks (packable)
  • Lanterns (battery powered, packable)

We won't consider: bulky/heavy tents, ice chests, propane/liquid fuel stoves, water jugs, car camping furniture

Climbing

Non-safety critical accessories only.

  • Climbing shoes
  • Climbing packs
  • Chalk bags
  • Guidebooks (current editions)

We won't consider: ropes, harnesses, belay devices, helmets, hardware, protection, mountaineering boots, ice axes, crampons

Apparel & Footwear

Technical outdoor brands only. Clean, no major wear or stains.

  • Ski/Snowboard equipment — Insurance exclusion (apparel OK)
  • Fishing gear — Space constraints
  • Cycling gear — Space constraints
  • Helmets — Any type, any condition
  • Safety-critical climbing gear — Ropes, harnesses, protection
  • Large items — Kayaks, bikes, cargo boxes
  • Off-brand or unknown manufacturers
  • Damaged, dirty, or worn-out items

Consignment Terms

Simple, fair, transparent. No surprises.

  • Your cut (store credit)* up to 70%
  • Cash out option $0.80 per $1 credit
  • Minimum consignment period** 12 weeks
  • Standard price reductions** 20% at week 7
    40% at week 10
  • Unsold items Pick up by week 12

*70% payout during program launch; standard rate is 60%.
**Timelines may be extended based on item quality, demand, seasonality, or overall program fit at store discretion.

We research current retail and resale prices, then factor in condition and demand. We aim for prices that sell within the 90-day period while getting you a fair return.

Yes, you can cash out your store credit at $0.80 per dollar. But we encourage credit—it gets you more value and keeps good gear circulating in the community.

You can pick up your unsold items at any time during the 12-week consignment period. Items not picked up by the end of week 12 automatically become the property of The Approach and may be donated, liquidated, or disposed of.
